What does IAM chauffeur training cover?
A choice of 1, 3 or 5 day courses provides executive hire companies and individual chauffeurs with the opportunity to match their training needs exactly.
To help ensure participants benefit fully from their course – and achieve the required accreditation standard – a process of continuous skill development and evaluation takes place throughout the course.Whose vehicle – and where does training take place?
Conducted in the participant’s own or allocated vehicle, training is delivered by a fully qualified, DSA approved, IAM Fleet advanced driver trainer.
Minimising business disruption and reducing traveling time, training can usually be held at any UK location.
Please note: course participants must hold a valid licence and the vehicle in which training is to take place must be legally roadworthy and fully insured.
…and awarding qualifying chauffeurs formal recognition
for their skills
The 1 day course
leading to the IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training certificate
Beginning with an initial assessment drive to identify individual training needs, the day’s programme includes a short demonstration drive with instructional commentary and on-road training, followed by a discussion with the Trainer.
The one day course is an introduction to the responsibilities of the professional chauffeur. Etiquette skills, risk management and both personal and public safety awareness are all developed.
Participants are also taught how to drive in a style that enhances passenger comfort, creates less stress for the driver, and reduces fuel consumption and vehicle wear.
On successfully completing this course, participants are given a written appraisal from their Trainer and presented with an IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training certificate.
An invitation to register as an IAM Associate
On attending the one-day IAM Fleet ‘Professional Chauffeur’ training course participants are invited to become Associates of the IAM, entitling them to many of the benefits of IAM membership.
The 3 day course
leading to the IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training certificate ‘with Merit’
The three day programme begins with an initial assessment drive to identify individual training needs, and a demonstration drive with instructional commentary, followed by on-road training.
The programme aims to develop increased knowledge and understanding of the relevant health and safety issues, and also covers passenger security (including how to recognise potential hi-jack attempts). It includes ‘car control’ training, and on the afternoon of the third day, course participants take the IAM Advanced Driving Test.
On successfully completing the course, participants receive a written appraisal from their Trainer and are presented with a certificate to confirm that they have undertaken IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training and passed ‘with merit’.
In addition, they receive a certificate confirming that they have passed the Advanced Driving Test, and have been awarded membership of the IAM.
The 5 day course
leading to the IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training certificate ‘with Distinction’
Our five day programme includes all aspects of the 3-day course but provides more time to practise and perfect all the skills required by the professional chauffeur and develop a greater knowledge and understanding of the relevant health, safety and customer service issues.
On the afternoon of the fifth day, course participants take the IAM Advanced Driving Test.
To achieve accreditation ‘with distinction’ a written test comprising 50 multiple-choice questions must be taken – this includes questions on the Highway Code, advanced driving, and the duties and responsibilities of the professional chauffeur.
On successfully completing the 5-day course, participants are given a written appraisal from their Trainer and are presented with a certificate to confirm that they have undertaken IAM Fleet Chauffeur Training and passed ‘with Distinction’.
In addition, they receive a certificate confirming that they have passed the Advanced Driving Test, and have been awarded membership of the IAM.
