Driving Assessor Training

Would releasing all your staff who drive company vehicles for training prove unworkable?
Is the cost of training all your people prohibitive?

Does high staff turnover rule out investment in driver training?

While many organisations recognise the need to train employees who drive company vehicles, high staff turnover, seasonality, and the cost of training a large workforce can make it operationally and commercially unrealistic.

There remains, however, a corporate responsibility to ensure that anyone who drives on your organisation’s business is competent to do so.

One of the most effective ways of squaring this particular circle is to train one of your key people to become your organisation’s Driving Assessor.

benefits to your organisation:

  • highly time-efficient and cost-effective way to improve driving standards
  • establishes a formal process for monitoring driver performance and development
  • demonstrates your organisation’s commitment to road safety
  • helps protect your people, your vehicles, and other road users

This IAM Fleet training course has been designed to meet National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) standards

On completion of this course participants will be capable of conducting driving assessments, recognising an employee’s need for training, supporting any recommendations made to management with an appropriate report – and presenting updates on company policy, regulations and law*

Because being a credible Driving Assessor calls not only for exemplary driving ability, but also for good judgement and communication skills, and the ability to command respect from colleagues, this comprehensive programme is about much more than just advanced driving.

A choice of courses leading to IAM Fleet Driving Assessor accreditation

With a choice of 3 and 4 day courses, candidates and their sponsoring organisations can elect to focus solely on the core Assessor’s skills, or on day 4, enhance this training with an additional component on driving law and regulations.

Beginning with an initial assessment drive to identify the participant’s training needs, the programmes also include a short demonstration drive with instructional commentary, and on-road training followed by discussion sessions with the Trainer.

During the course, participants will take the IAM Advanced Driving Test, which they must pass to achieve IAM fleet Driving Assessor accreditation.

On the successful completion of either course, participants receive a written appraisal from their Trainer and are presented with a certificate to confirm that they have undertaken IAM Fleet Driving Assessor Training – together with a certificate acknowledging completion of the IAM Advanced Driving Course, and an IAM Member’s certificate.

Whose vehicle – and where does training take place?

Conducted in the participant’s own or company allocated vehicle – training is delivered by a fully qualified IAM Fleet advanced driver trainer. Minimising business disruption and reducing traveling time, training can usually be held at any UK location. Course participants must hold a valid licence and the vehicle in which training is to take place must be legally roadworthy and fully insured.

Please note: Attending this course does not qualify participants to instruct any other drivers at any level. An instructor must hold the Driving Standards Agency ADI qualification.
