LGV Driver Training

Do your LGV drivers have the skills and awareness they need to drive your vehicles safely on company business?

Do they drive in a style that helps to minimise your operating costs?

At a time when insurance, fuel and vehicle repair costs are escalating dramatically – and hours lost through injury and inoperative vehicles force costs still higher – it makes sound economic sense to ensure your LGV drivers are equipped with advanced driving skills, and have a thorough understanding of the principles and practice of safe driving.

It also makes sound economic sense to entrust the training of your LGV drivers to the IAM’s DTA-approved Advanced Driving Trainers.

Benefits to your organisation:

  • improves drivers’ vehicle control and driving skills
  • promotes safety awareness and risk management skills
  • helps your company to deliver a more professional service
  • helps protect your people, your vehicles, and other road users
  • reduces vehicle wear and tear and fuel consumption
  • demonstrates your organisation’s commitment to road safety

This IAM Fleet training course has been designed to meet National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) standards

Combining practice and theory, this comprehensive course aims to help individual drivers improve their driving skills, develop risk management strategies, and understand the safety implications of driving on company business.

How is the training day structured?

The day begins with a highly interactive off-road session in which we explore the theory of advanced roadcraft and learn how to develop a systematic approach to safer driving.

The on-road sessions begin with a short assessment drive. An initial critique is then prepared by the trainer to assist in preparing a personal training programme for each participant.

The afternoon is dedicated to advanced driving tuition, after which a final assessment is given, and a written report is completed, by the trainer.

The day ends with a full debrief involving all participants.

Whose vehicle – and where does training take place?

Minimising disruption to work and reducing your employees’ travelling time, training can usually be held at any UK location, by arrangement, using the participant’s own or allocated company vehicle (with trailer if appropriate).

Please note: the vehicle (and trailer) on which training is to take place must be legally roadworthy and fully insured, including cover for any additional driver that participants invite to share their session. All participants must hold a valid UK driving licence.

An invitation to register as an IAM Associate
